If you’re reading this at the scene of an accident, the following steps will help protect you and your loved ones both immediately and in the long run:
- Make sure your car is stopped and that the ignition is off.
- Call 911 if someone was injured. If not, use the local Police other emergency numbers
- Exchange information with the other driver(s). Make sure you get their name, address, phone number and insurance information from their insurance registration card or driver’s license.
- Take photos of the scene of the accident—use a cellphone, smartphone, or tablet if you have one available. Make sure to save the pictures in case you need them in the future.
- File an official accident report within 48 hours. This is the law.
- Let your insurance company know immediately.

1- At the accident scene, should your vehicle not be safe to drive, advise the police officer you would like to have your vehicle towed to Carstar Douglas Auto Body & Paint, direct from the scene of the accident. Not to be towed to a “tow yard” storage facility. This will be a savings of time and cost, to you and your insurance company. Only having to tow your vehicle once saves time and money.
2- Any reputable towing company, We work with all towing companies make it easy for them and for you to get your vehicle in our secure Body Shop. You can call our 24-Hour Towing Hotline at 626-795-7577 to have your tow arranged. You can learn more about our towing service in contact us
3- Note: some tow truck drivers can be pushy and aggressive, and try to get you to commit to services you’re not sure about while you’re still in shock from the accident.
4- If The tow truck driver asks you where you want your vehicle to be towed, Bring it to Carstar Douglas Auto Body, Many drivers will offer to take your car to their impound lot. Do NOT do this. By bringing your vehicle to our collision center, you will save yourself money on additional towing and impound fees.
5- If your vehicle is safe to drive, take your vehicle to Carstar Douglas Auto Body, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Please bring all your insurance information, we will inspect, photograph and determine the damages. If you need a car rental, we will arrange to have you picked up at the time you drop your vehicle off for the repairs.
6- You should also contact your insurance company, make a “claims report” and advise them on the damages to the vehicle, also informing them that Carstar Douglas Auto Body is the facility you’ve selected for your repairs. Some insurance companies have what is called “drive-in claims service;” it is not mandatory you use this service, unless your policy states otherwise. If not, just inform your insurance company that the “insurance claims adjuster” can inspect your vehicle at Carstar Douglas Auto Body. Therefore removal of any necessary parts for any “hidden” damages by Carstar Douglas Auto Body’s trained technicians can be performed for a complete and thorough inspection and agreed estimate by the “insurance claims adjuster.”
7- If the accident is your fault, your insurance company will cover the damages to your vehicle* and the other party. You are therefore the “Insured” of the claim. Check with your insurance agent for rental car coverage on your policy. If the accident wasn’t your fault, the other parties insurance should cover your damages. You are then the “Claimant”. If you are the “Claimant”, you are automatically entitled to a rental vehicle and you will not have to pay a deductible.

3- Do I have to get multiple estimates?
No, you do not need to get multiple estimates; you only need to notify your insurance representative as to where you will be having your repairs done. It is the state law that you may use the shop of your choice. Your insurance company will work hand in hand with your choice of shop to insure you receive the service and quality repairs you have come to expect.
4- What happens if the insurance company’s estimate is lower than the one I get from Carstar Douglas Auto Body ? Insurance companies are generally willing to pay for a proper repair. The insurance company appraiser may include only the most obvious damage in their estimate. At Carstar Douglas Auto Body, we try to write as thorough an estimate as possible. Just bring the insurance estimate in with you and we can go over any differences. If necessary, we’ll notify the insurance company of the changes we need to make, generally this just takes a phone call for any “supplement repairs.
5- What happens if more damage is found?
Today’s vehicles are very complex; so it can be difficult to see all the damage during the initial inspection. Therefore, finding additional damage has become very common; estimates written without a thorough disassembly of the vehicle, often have additional “hidden” damages. If additional damage is found, it is documented and discussed with you and the insurance company. The insurance company may, or may not, want to come see the damage. These supplemental charges are itemized, authorized and billed along with the rest of the repairs. If the insurance representative wants to come see the additional damage, the repair process could be delayed from 2 – 5 business days. Be mindful that any additional parts found to be damaged will have to be authorized for purchase, then ordered, which can lead to another delay (based on availability.

1- What is a deductible? A deductible is like a ”co-pay” on health insurance. It is a portion of the repair bill that is not covered by your insurance policy. The amount is determined by your insurance policy and is first set when you first purchase your insurance policy. Deductibles are commonly $100, $250, $500 and $1,000. The higher your deductible amount, the lower your insurance premium.

4- What is the difference between collision insurance and comprehensive insurance coverage and deductible? Collision insurance and comprehensive insurance and the deductible may vary. Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your automobile from incidents such as vandalism, theft or glass breakage, you deductible may be lower the Collision claim. 5- Will my claim change my deductible or will my insurance rates go up?
